How to ask for Google reviews within Google’s rules
Google publishes rules on how businesses may ask for reviews. Breaking them can get reviews removed from your listing.
What is allowed
- Asking every customer, in the same way.
- A stand, card or QR code that opens your review form.
- Replying to reviews, including critical ones.
What is not allowed
- Offering anything in return for a review, such as a discount or a free drink.
- Asking only the customers you think are happy.
- Writing reviews of your own business, or asking staff, friends or family to.
- Paying anyone to write reviews.
Asking in person
Keep it short and neutral, and say it the same way to everyone. No customer should feel they have to leave a review.
